Dominant Days

On Saturday the Essex Base Ball Club traveled out to Fort Warren on Georges Island in Boston Harbor to take on their long time rivals, the Melrose Pondfeilders. In the first game the Essex Nine’s offense came out tallying several runs in the first inning. The weather was no factor for the Essex boys as they demonstrated sharp fielding and continued hitting allowed the Essex Nine a 25-2 victory. In the second game Melrose took a 2-0 lead in the first but through the next 8 innings the Essex Nine continued its offensive surge and came away with a 20-5 victory.

On Sunday in Essex Base Ball Association play the Newburyport Clamdiggers were able to handily defeat the Lynn Live Oaks 19-9 in the first match and 23-3 in the second match. The games were closer than the score indicates but costly errors allowed the Clamdiggers to tally several runs later in both games. Pictures

The next game is a June 9th triple header beginning at 11 when the Lowell Nine playing two against the Portsmouth Rockinghams and then the Ipswich Brewers taking on the Presumpscot Nine of Maine
