There was no joy in Connecticut for the Essex Organization this weekend. On Saturday the Beaneaters traveled to Colt Meadows to take on the always dangerous Hartford Senators. The game was a back and forth affair with one team scoring only to have their lead taken away the next. With the Beaneaters down in the top of the ninth by two rookie Ryan Sifferlin came to the plate and delivered a two run double to tie it at 10. In the 11th the Beaneaters once again took the lead but in the bottom of the inning the Senators were able to plate a run to once again tie the game. In the bottom of the 12th the Senators were able to score a run and take the game. It was a well played game on both sides and we would like to thank the Senators for a great day of baseball.
Sunday the Essex Base Ball Club took on the always tough Waterbury Connors. Most of the Essex Nine had played for the Beaneaters the previous day and the heat and the previous days game showed in the first game against the Connors. The game was a blowout with the Connors running out to a 12-2 victory. The second game was a battle with the two teams exchanging runs until the 9th inning when the Connors pulled ahead with a walk off double.
The Beaneaters return to action on Saturday as they travel to Westfield to take on the Wheelmen. On Sunday the Essex Nine travel to Ipswich to take on the Ipswich Brewers at 4pm at Raymond Fields 94 Essex Rd (Route133) in Ipswich. The game is sponsored by the Ipswich Museum.
