The Essex BBC will travel to hallowed grounds of Cooperstown, NY to participate in the first ever vintage base ball tournament in the town, the John Clarkson Classic. The tournament is organized by the Saginaw Old Golds of Michigan and is celebrating Hall of Fame Pitcher John Clarkson’s time with the Saginaw Club in Michigan. Clarkson also played for the Boston Beaneaters from 1888-1892 so members of the Essex Nine who also play for the Beaneaters will don their Boston threads.
The local Nine will be playing four games during the tournament, three on Saturday and one on Sunday. We kick off on Saturday at 10am vs. the host Old Golds at the Farmers Museum. The club then switches to the beautiful Doubleday Field for games at 3 and 5pm against the Mudville BBC of Holliston, MA and then the NY Gothams. On Sunday they are back to action at the Farmers Museum at 12pm against the always tough Brooklyn Atlantics.
The club hopes for a good showing and more will be posted on the results of the weekend.
