Essex drops two to the Connors…..

In the final game of the season for the Essex Base Ball Club they squared off against their archrivals the Waterbury Connors in a battle for the ages.  The first game  started off with the Connors scoring a run in the second and then another in the third but the EBBC countered with three runs in the top of the fourth.  Each club tallied two runs in the fifth but Essex went on to score three in the sixth to give them an 8-4 lead.  The Connors went on to score another in the seventh.  With the score going into the bottom of the ninth at 8-5 Essex thought it had the victory but the Connors battled back to tie the game.

In the top of the tenth Chris “Monkey” Sheehy led off with a single.  Drew Murphy had an infield hit but over ran the bag and was tagged out.  With one out Brian “Cappy” Sheehy hit a ball to right center that the center fielder was about to track down on the bound, but not before Monkey scored from second base.  Essex went into the bottom of the tenth with a one run lead but again the Connors rallied back.  Finally the Connors were able to tally the winning run in the bottom of the twelfth.  The game was well played on both sides and members of the Essex squad would like to thank the Connors for making the trip to Danvers and look forward to matching up again next season.

The final game of the season sees the Lynn Live Oaks take on the Dirigo BBC of Augusta Maine on Saturday September 29th 12pm @ Endicott Park in Danvers, MA.
