The Essex Base Ball Club and the Lynn Live Oaks headed to Waltham, MA this past Sunday to be part of Waltham Historical Days. The two club squared off in one day that day that might go down as one of the best played Essex- Lynn match ups. Essex got off to a quick start scoring five runs in the first three innings. Lynn came back with one in the fourth, but Essex tallied three in the fifth and seemed destined to cruise to victory but the Live Oaks would not go away scoring one in the bottom of the 7th then three in the bottom of the 9th to close the gab to 9-5. The score may have looked secure but the bases were loaded for the final out of the game. It was a quick- low scoring game.
The Essex offense was led by captain Brian “Cappy” Sheehy and Pat “Food Stamp” Foley who each had several RBI’s. The Essex Club’s defense was led by the shortstop Chris “Monkey” Sheehy who sacrificed his body on several occasions to make tremendous catches. The Lynn Live Oaks really showed signs of coming together as a club and hopefully that will carry over to their final game against the Dirigo BBC of Augusta, ME.
The Essex Base Ball Club would like to thank Dave Smith and the Civil War Roundtable of Greater Boston for continuing to put together this event. We would also like to thank all of the fans who showed up and played in the second game with us. We would also like to thank Shaws Supermarket on Lexington St. in Waltham for making a donation for the game. We look forward to playing in Waltham next year.
