On Saturday May 12th the Boston Beaneaters took the field for the first time as they squared off against the Cornish Game Hens in Warwick, RI. Chris “The Monkey” Sheehy took the ball for the first start for the new club and pitched a gem. From the first pitch (which was a strike) to the last he kept the Hens off balance with a hard fastball and a tough change up. The Beaneater bats were alive in the first two innings scoring 7 runs but after the 2nd inning the Hen’s pitcher Patrick “Blue” Riley completely shut them down not allowing another run in the game. The Beaneaters despite only playing with eight players were able to hold off an eighth inning rally by the Hens to preserve a 7-5 victory. The team would like to thank the Hens for their hospitality and they look forward to playing them several more times this season.
The next game for Beaneaters will be Saturday May 26th as they square off against the Hartford Senators in the 2nd annual Memorial Day Tournament in Pittsfield, MA.
Essex returns to the field Sunday May 20th , 11am and 1pm, as they face the Melrose Pondfielders in conjunction with a sheep sheering festival in North Andover, MA. Directions: http://www.nams.northandoverpublicschools.com/contact.html
