On Sunday September 24th the Essex Base Ball Club matched up against the Waterbury Connors in two epic games. In the first game Essex snapped off three runs in the first inning to take the lead but Waterbury was able to chip away at that lead and score one in the 4th– 5th– and then the 8th to tie the ball game. The tie was broken in the 12th inning when Waterbury scored. It was a fast paced game full of amazing defense on both sides of the ball.
In the second game Essex scored two in the 2nd and 3rd to jump ahead of Waterbury 4-1 but again Waterbury chipped away scoring runs in the 5th and 7th. Despite a scare in the bottom of the ninth
Essex was able to hold on to the lead and win the second game 4-3.
Both teams were very evenly matched, which made for a fun exciting day of vintage base ball action. Waterbury captured the Cherry Bat Championship honors from Essex this year, Huzzah to them. It is always a pleasure to match up against them.
