This past weekend the Essex Base Ball Organization participated in the Newburyport Educational Fund’s American Music Festival at Spencer Peirce Little Farm. On Saturday the EBBA Mixed Nine took on the Mudville BBC and the Melrose Pondfielders. Despite a different field than they are accustomed to at the farm, the “home” Mixed Nine defeated Mudville in the first game 11-5 and Melrose 19-10 in the third game. In a great second game Mudville rallied and defeated Melrose 11-10. Close to 1,800 fans attended the music fest on Saturday and Sunday was no different as the newly formed and quite formidable Presumpscot Nine traveled down from Maine to take on anther mix of EBBA players. In the first game Essex marched off to a quick lead and never looked back. In the second game Presumpscot hit liner after liner to defeat the Essex squad. Defense on both sides was strong throughout the day. We all look forward to many more battles with the Maine boys in the future.
We would like to thank all of the clubs for coming out and participating in the event.
Our championship game for the Essex Base Ball Association will be played Saturday October 5th starting at 12pm as the Newburyport Clamdiggers face off against the Portsmouth Rockinghams. The winner of that game will square off against the Lowell Baseball Nine for the championship. All games should be close so come on out and cheer us on.
