Lynn Drops One to Melrose

On September 10 the Lynn Live Oaks faced off against the Melrose Pondfeilders in a rare Melrose home game, part of Melrose’s Victorian Weekend festivities. Despite solid hitting throughout the batting order and excellent fielding on the left side from shortstop Pat Cook, third baseman Matt Calnan and left fielder George Birmbas, the Live Oaks couldn’t overcome a nine-run sixth inning by Melrose, and lost 16-9. The visiting Oaks did treat Melrose fans to two rarities: A successful execution of the ‘hidden ball’ trick by Brian ‘Wiz’ Besse, and four – that’s right, 4 – strikeouts hurled by Ralph ‘Speedball’ Hebb. Thanks to the Pondfeilders for a great game, and for their post-game hospitality.
