Boston Returns to Winning Ways

The Beaneaters traveled back to Warwick, RI on Saturday to participate in another round robin tournament with the Providence Grays and Cornish Game Hens of Providence.  The first game of the day pitted the Beaneaters against the Grays.  Chris “The Monkey” Sheehy took the pitching box for the Beaneaters and struggled out of the gate allowing several runs in the first 2 innings.  Monkey, suffering from limited warm up time, recovered from early inning mistakes and held the Grays to only one more run in the 8th inning.  The Beaneaters bats and team were silent until the 7th inning when the team was awakened by a diving play at shortstop made by Pat Cook to rob a Gray of a hit and save a run.  After that play the cob webs were shaken off and the Beaneaters offense exploded batting around in the bottom of the 7th.  The final score was not remembered but it was a well played game.

In the second game of the day the Beaneaters squared off against the Hens and the Beaneater offense did not skip a beat picking up where it left off in the late innings of the first game piling on runs.  Drew Murph did the hurling for the Beaneaters and kept the Hens off balance with a mixture of pitches.  Again the final score was not remembered but the Beaneaters would like to thank the Hens for hosting the day.

The Lynn Live Oaks squared off against the Melrose Pondfielders at Seaside Park in Marblehead, MA.  The scores were 6-2 and 3-0 both in favor of Melrose.

The Essex Base Ball Club will head to Mattapoisett, MA on Sunday August 5th to participate in the 150th anniversary of the town.
