The Essex Base Ball Club improved its league record to 4-2 with impressive wins over the Thames Base Ball Club of New London, CT. Essex put up 14 runs in the first game behind the impressive hitting of September call up Lee Smith. Lee almost hit for the cycle missing only the homerun. The combination of Brian “Wiz” Bessse and Bill “The Undertaker” Gendall held the Thames Club to only one run. In the second game Essex continued its impressive offensive onslaught posting 9 runs to New London’s 1. The defense was led by Pat “Stonehands” Foley who made some tremendous catches including a one handed snag of a line drive. The wins were a team effort.
The club returns to action this weekend on both Saturday September 16th and Sunday September 17th . They will take on the Cornish Game Hens at the Lawrence Sons of Italy on Saturday at 11am and then Sunday at 1pm face off against there friends the Lynn Live Oaks in Waltham, MA.
